Questões climáticas em quadrinhos: uma análise retórica da HQ Heróis do Clima, de Caco Galhardo

Abstract

In the present work, we aim to analyze the comic book Heróis do Clima, in order to identify the rhetorical strategies used in the work, which is configured as a verbal-visual text. Created by the cartoonist Caco Galhardo, in a initiative of the multiplatform Planeta Sustentável, from Editora Abril, the HQ was launched in print format in 2014, during the Conference of the Parties (COP) 21, in Lima, Peru. Subsequently, was published in digital version by the publisher. The corpus was selected considering the need to find efficient teaching strategies that help in the understanding of the climate change (global warming), so that there is a change in the behavior of people, especially young people, who is the target audience of the HQ. Heróis do Clima tells the story of Earth's climate change through two characters, a grandfather and his grandson, who live on Mars in the year 2072. The narrative has a colloquial language and humor typical of comic strips and presents characters and situations that arouse empathy and promote laughter, gaining the adhesion of the audience-auditorium, activating passions (pathos). We also verified how the language resources of the comics were used rhetorically and how Galhardo gains the adhesion of the auditorium-reader (a young audience) from the perspective of a scientific study on global warming. The analysis is based on the notions of rhetoric and studies dealing with the language of comics. As a theoretical reference for rhetorical analysis we use Aristóteles (2000, 2015), Perelman & OlbrechtsTyteca (2014), Meyer (2007), Reboul (2004), Ferreira (2014, 2015) and Fiorin (2014). For the study of the language of the comics we use the works of researchers such as Ramos (2016), Eisner (2001; 2013) and McCloud (2005). We have found that the elements of the language of comics combined with the use of rhetorical resources, such as the use of figures, construct a persuasive material that has the potential to win the adhesion of the audience to which it is directed.
